The starter set does not give you two entry level armies. It gives you you two units! Its enough to roll dice and show how the general mechanics of the game works

I’ll show my gen x age and say this has been around for a very long time. Back when GW stores had red carpets and we used to sit during the school holidays. I learnt it from someone back then and the many iterations of bad Gw paint pots. I’m glad this little hack is still going.

Your weapons hit the shoulder pads right? Obviously too late now, but for anyone building these: DO NOT glue the jetpacks in (not needed as they are firm enough just pushing them in). DO NOT glue the shoulder pads on until you've magnetised/dry run your weapons (these were the last things I glued after I'd checked all variations fit). Be prepared to flare them upwards. The burst cannons and flamers will not fit if you glue your shoulder pads down like this. The box art is deceiving - only the plasma and fusion will fit. The bursts cannon/flamer/sheild will not fix OVER the shoulder pads. The rear of the weapons will foul on them, unless you mount them super far forward/side mount which looks average...

I’m a votaan fan and I’m glad you like them. Just remember unless you’re doing an official tournament, just glue whatever weapons and use the rules that your want, magnetise or bluetack on bigger things that change the model significantly

Don’t start with space marines if you don’t want to, they aren’t for everyone and that’s fine. Just get a single box or unit you think looks good, get the rules for free on the app, and see if you like them, if so expand, if not, that’s ok

I'm priced out of real 40k. I've started with proxy models, which are every bit as cool and actually attainable, but i'm not really sure I can actually play with them so I guess i'll just paint and enjoy them.

I don't think telling people "just do this. Then do this. Then this' is gonna make them want to play. It takes all the creativity and personality out of the equation. Also we don't need even more space marine players

I’m doing snow bases for my Votann. Snow is supposed to look flat! Stepping out of your house into a fresh snowfall, finding footprints and tracks in the crust as you walk around is the best part about snow! I’ve been having trouble making tracks behind my subjects though

Well i chose necrons for my first army

My first and only tournament in 2012 was a disaster and has put me off for life. First up my brother misread the rules and so we thought it was 600pts of just 1HQ and 2 Troops choices. Obviously we were allowed to add to that. Secondly, I had to build and paint both armies. Not a big deal, but stressful and to find out we coulda had different models was annoying. We lost first 2 games badly. The third opponent was allowed to solo the duo games with a 1200pt army against our two 600pts. And he also knew the people running it so was allowed a non WYSIWYG army that was only half built and less painted. And this was at Warhammer World. I aint ever going back. I still collect and paint but have never had a game since, totally ruined it for me.

Easy tip for new players. Combat patrol boxes are roughly 130 euro each but if you get the starter set and top them of with the 2 missing units you pay about 155 for 2 combat patrols (sure its just tyranids and space marines but its still a budget option to try.)

Top bad the blood angels combat patrol has almost nothing to do with their combat style

Hate Warhammer tournaments that require the whole army painted

I thought it was ok and a better than the last few. The start felt pretty tense but you loose a lot of tension throughout as the sith went from killing Jedi left and right than stops and does it far more slowly
